Güneş added: “The place where the impact of this occupation, which has continued for half a century, is felt most intensely is East Jerusalem. Home to Al-Aqsa Mosque—the first qibla of Muslims and the site associated with the Prophet Muhammad’s Night Journey and Ascension—as well as some of the holiest sites in Christianity and Judaism, East Jerusalem has faced difficult circumstances since it passed out of Ottoman rule in 1917.” Dr. Nawaf Takruri, President of the Palestinian Scholars Association, also delivered a presentation on the duties and responsibilities of Muslims. In addition, the university administration was visited by our Association’s Vice President as part of the program.
